Stress & Ageing

There are various stressors for us as we age. These include retirement, reduced social interaction, partially as a result of retirement, financial limitations, loss of loved ones. There can also be issues of illnesses and reduced physical abilities. Signs of stress include changes made to eating habits, mood swings, issues with memory, physical signs like body aches and attempts to deliberately isolate from others.

Ensuring our continued wellness as we age include making mindful choices in the various dimensions in our life. The original 6 dimensions of wellness was a model developed by Dr Bill Hettler. These 6 dimensions are social, emotional, vocational, spiritual, physical and intellectual. To develop wellness in the social dimension, for instance, you could pursue a hobby or interest you had always wanted to, but could not find the time or joining an association or club with like-minded people. There are also wide range of social activities that our Singapore government has curated for you to actively be part of, that you may be interested in and can find on the Singapore C3A website.
